Wearing Tweed As A Modern Woman

As someone who has worn practically anything that I can think of, one the garments that I have worn less compared to others is tweed. And as a modern woman, I guess that it is just fair to say that this time, to forget everything I thought I knew about tweed is necessary in order to reimagine modern ways to wear it.

What Is Tweed, Anyway?

As a clothing material, tweed is considered as one of the sturdiest and most durable materials around. Tweed – at least its most familiar form – came out in 18th century Scotland out of a need for a material that would make good garments. Garments that are hard-wearing, well-insulated tailoring and cold resistant. Woven sturdily from coarse virgin wool in brown, earthy and dusky colors, this original performance fabric provided farmers and sheperds with a means of staving off damp, chilly conditions.

As fabrics go, tweed can take more rough and tumble than most – its twill construction boasting resistance to both wind and water – and was to the 18th century farmer a bit like what Lycra is to the modern-day cyclist.

TYPES OF TWEED PATTERNS

Woven into a slightly lightweight twill design which can range from a lightly mottled weave to distinct stripes, the common tweed is by far the easiest design to wear. Next to it is the widely-popularf herringbone tweed, which boasts a distinctive V-shaped pattern. The herringbone tweed is known for its rich visual texture and loved for its versatility, to be honest this is also one of my favorites

And finally, at the more attention-grabbing and luxurious end of the scale, houndstooth tweed (characterised by a bold broken check design) and overcheck tweed (large windowpane checks) offer more statement-making takes on this time-honoured cloth.

Why Wear It Now?

Over the years tweed’s nicely-cratfted appearance has lent itself to the wardrobes of most women, making it one of the most important fabrics today. I wear tweed not only because it is very fashionable, but also because it is a warm and comfortable clothing for me. Here is an example of a pearl-buttoned tweed jacket for women that is great for casual or evening walks.

Yellow Is The Color Of Summer

While it might be one of those shades that is often attributed to happiness, i think not so many people gravitate towards liking the color yellow. While I agree that it is one of the “happy” colors (well, even Smileys are colored yellow, if anything!) most people are not comfortable with yellow. People think that it is a color which doesn’t suit them well, and the rest of the world just don’t seem to like it.

As an accent color, however, yellow is really a nice color. It’s up there with colors like mint and orange (two VERY popular colors for the season) as a color that looks really good when combined with black. As a color that will only serve as an accent to an outfit, it is a very nice color to play with. Because it is very attention-grabbing, just like its close cousin green, it is also one of those colors that complements just about any other dark color such as black or denim. Lately, I have found myself gravitating towards this new popular shade as an accent to colors like navy, purple, green, burgundy, pale blue, teals and, of course, neutrals like grey and browns.

yellow long shirt.jpg

If you want my advice on this, I would say that don’t try to overdo it. As it is, yellow is already a very bright and intimidating color to wear and making it “in your face” will not be a great idea. When used as an accent, yellow usually doesn’t have to be worn anywhere near the face, which is the biggest concern of most people. Some people are afraid of wearing yellow because of their skin color — there are many who want to wear it but feel that it is unflattering for their skin. But for me, as long as you pair yellow with dark tones such as dark brown or black, it will not take away too much from your outfit.

Yellow is a great color, and you shouldn’t be afraid of wearing it. It is the color of summer, and this yellow long shirt from Bagazimuri is a great summer dress that you can try!

How To Wear Ripped Jeans For Women?

As the change in direction for denim is ever evolving, shredded jeans have transitioned from the working man’s (or woman’s) uniform and its super-sloppy aesthetic to a street style staple associated with fashionable dressing. Once deemed decidedly inappropriate for most occasions, it seems distressed denim experienced an unexpected shift, turning it into a testament of effortless style.

Most of the time, we complain about the style restrictions winter puts on our wardrobes. But while it’s true that blizzard temps and punishing wind-chills can limit your fashion choices, there are definitely some upsides to getting dressed in the cold. Yes, it’s great to feel the freedom of a warm breeze against your simple outfit of a T-shirt and jeans. But cold weather means more layers and ultimately more ways to look cool, not to mention all the boss outerwear and boots. With this in mind we thought we’d show you a few great ways to dress for warmth and look cooler for it, starting with ripped jeans.

This is a perfect example of how to show off your layering prowess rather than trying to hide it. Letting your long underwear show through the holes in you jeans gives them some added punk appeal. So why not channel a masculine aura in your woman style? Think of Johnny Depp, Kurt Cobain, or even young Jared Leto with this nod to ’90s grunge! You’ll be warm and you won’t have to put away your favorite sneakers too. (A note about color matching: Wear black base layers under black or blue jeans, but only wear white ones under lighter blue washes)

One way to wear the ripped denim jeans is by layering. Layer your ripped jeans appropriately with an oversized sweater to remain bundled up with a hint of skin showing. If you like to look a bit taller and you have the tolerance for wearing heels, bring your distressed jeans to new heights when you pair them with a set of pointed pumps. Another way to look classy in ripped denim is to team your black denim with a basic blazer to elevate your look from daytime to nighttime.

Is It Okay To Wear Sandals In Spring?

As a fashionista who often trades comfort for beauty, nothing is more comfortable than wearing open flat shoes for Spring or Summer. Easy to take in and out of your feet, open toe sandals are great for the warm weather.

The thing is, a lot of women feel that wearing sandals will make them look frumpy and less elegant. Although it is true that shoes with heels are often a bit more elegant and can be flattering for your overall silhouette, open toe sandals can be very elegant, chic and hip too. I recently wore some open toed sandals, and boy how different the feeling is! Some of my favorites sandals from the new spring collections are so colorful, and they really have one major advantage over closed shoes — open toe sandals are really comfortable and they will allow you to walk for long period of time.

Things To Remember When Buying Sandals

  • Make sure you buy your shoes in the right size. Many women go up a size in shoe as they age, so don’t assume that you will keep the same size throughout life.
  • More is not more when it comes to shoes. Invest in quality and stick to good quality leather whenever possible. It’s worth investing in flats as you will usually wear them much more often than your heels.
  • Make sure that you buy shoes you can walk in!
  • When your outfit is very basic and simple, opt for trendier shoes to give the outfit a bit more of a young and hip vibe, when your outfit is very hip already you may want to tone it down with simple and elegant shoes. (As usual it’s all about balance).
  • Although you often will match your shoes with one of the colours of your clothes, you can also do the opposite and add a contrasting colour. Make sure though that the tone of colour has the same kind of saturation as the other colours in your outfit. This is easiest to do with black and white, which can be matched with any bright colour like red, yellow, green or blue.
  • Ankle straps will shorten your legs, so be careful with this look when your legs are short.
  • A good thing to look out for is padding. As you age, you loose quite a bit of the natural padding in your feet, so you may need to compensate for that with your shoes.
  • There are quite a few few tools that help make your shoes more comfortable. They include:

Things To Remember When Wearing Wide Legged Pants

As an uncharted territory for most people, I can say that wearing wide legged pants can be intimidating for some. Although the wide-leg pants is one of my most favorite trends to come out in the recent times, it was already a known classic that Hollywood celebrities such as Audrey Hepburn loved to wear. It is tailored, stylish and classic — but it boasts a silhouette that easily turns the heads of people whenever I decide to wear them. It doesn’t matter if it is high-waisted or low-slung, the wide legged pants is really perfect for the both casual, semi-formal or formal gatherings — as long as you know how to wear it!

Things To Remember When Wearing Wide-Legged Pants

Classic and simple as this trouser trend may be, the oversize shape may seem a bit intimidating to wear. While the wide-legged palazzo pants is certainly a trend we remember from decades past, it has gone into oblivion as modern women embraced the style of skinny jeans, jogger pants and slim denim in recent years. That is why when I look for inspiration for wearing wide legged pants, I always go to check out the styling dos and don’ts of some of the old Hollywood style icons.

There are a lot of silly fashion rules that exist for no reason. What me to give you some? Don’t wear navy with blue; don’t mix patterns; and, if you’re short, don’t even think about showing up to the wide legged pants party. Thinking about these “fashion rules”, I once remembered someone who said these:

While I’m by no means a wild child, I like to push the envelope a little bit when it comes to picking out my daily ensembles. If someone tells me I can’t wear something, you better believe I’m going to prove them wrong.

For me, wearing wide legged pants is all about balance and confidence. You need to understand that it can make you look short, so you have to compensate. For one, try wearing it high-waist just to see if it looks good on you. High waist will make you look taller than normal, which can offset the shortening effect of a wide-legged pants. Adding high heeled shoes into the equation is also another way to make yourself look good in a wide-legged pants. If you are interested to try one out, these large pocket wide legged pants from Style Nanda is a perfect yet conservative style to check out!

Jogger Pants As A Staple For Street Wear

Jogger pants as a street wear staple is quickly becoming a big influencer in the fashion scene. And in reality, it is starting to take over the general looks worn by guys today. Although not as rock-hard as denim or as classy pants, the good thing about the jogger pants is that it is very easy to wear and so light on the feel. With different styles and prints used to style them up, they are also really easy to wear and make yourself look cool.

Everything about street wear — from hoodies, caps, baseball shirts, coats — are inspired by the common search for a set of comfortable, wearable but still stylish cloths. As for jogger pants—well, I think they became popular among guys who want something cool and colorful to wear without resorting to women’s pants. Seriously, printed jogger pants are really easy to wear, and the multitude of available styles, designs and prints along with the materials make it a very versatile piece of clothing that you can partner with your top for a more uniform yet striking look.

Jogger pants have an innate, fresh and youthful feel to it. Thus, wearing it with a pair of sneakers is a great way to make the outfit work. Slim, tapered and cuffed joggers are perfect for showcasing your new sneakers, and it is also a reason why jogger pants are popular in street wear culture. Sneakers are a big part of this street culture, which is why jogger pants are well-loved by sneakerheads.

If you are working a bit more on the “casual” and “classy” side, wearing a button-up shirt with a pair of jogger pants is a great and effective way to make the  look more polished and stylish. This look would even work better if you are wearing joggers with a pair of lace-up shoes or loafers. Still, at the end of the day the  joggers look their most natural, basic and effective when they are worn with a pair of T-shirt. The shirt + jogger + sneakers combo is so popular among guys nowadays, and some guys even add hoodies into the mix in order to layer up during the cold weather.

At the end of the day, jogger pants are a nice way to not only make you feel comfortable but look stylish as well. How To Wear Ankle Cropped Pants

Looking good in your pants isn’t rocket science. Bell-bottoms, wide, tapered, regular or skinnies, flares or boot-cut — ah there are so many styles of pants to choose from that sometimes you just don’t know where to start! Although I do love wearing the regular skinny, and I always have some comfortable jeggings in reserve just in case I want to have a go at the gym or the track, one of the style of pants that many girls shy away from is the ankle cropped pants. For me, I think the reason why  this is prevalent is because not many girls know how to wear ankle cropped pants in a flattering way.

Want to know how you can wear ankle cropped pants? Here are some tips to put in your mind:

Tips To Wear Ankle Cropped Pants

  • Make sure that your ankle cropped pants are tapered. If the ankle cropped pants follow the shape of your natural leg line, they will really look flattering. Avoid the really wide looking ankle-cropped pants if you aren’t too tall because you will look shorter in it.
  • Well, going back to the height issue, a great way to overcome this “shortening effect” is to wear heeled shoes. Not every one is blessed with a tall body, so if you are vertically-challenged, always get help from your trusted heels.
  • If there is not too much contrast between your shoes and your legs, your legs will look a little bit longer too. Some lengthening tips is to wear strapless shoes, or try to wear non-contrast shoes too much!  Just to add, wearing boots are also very effective with cropped pants, but not with ankle cropped pants. In order to stop this “shortening effect” of ankle cropped pants, try not to wear boots or flats.
  • Try to balance your look out when you wear tapered ankle cropped pants. You can do this by wearing a slightly baggy top in order to make your legs slimmer. A baggy top will make it look like you are going for the inverted A-shape, which is flattering for some women who like to look slimmer and thinner than normal.

At the end of the day, ankle cropped pants are great for trying to wear a pair of shoes that you want to show off too! If you have some nice sneakers or shoes that you want to show off, wearing ankle pants is a great way to do that. Faux Leather As Affordable Fashion Pieces

Because leather is often considered a fashion staple, both in men’s and women’s closets, it is definitely something that you need to have in your collection. Stylish, classy and very versatile, wearing leather can really make your outfit stand out. Though it is a fashion staple that most of us, if not all of us have worn at least once in our lives, it still not an easy task to confidently distinguish the difference between faux leather and real leather.

Admit it, it can be really frustrating to purchase what looks like a genuine leather clothing in a price point that only leather clothing can cost you, only to realize that it is actually faux and synthetic. Yes, authentic leather is much more expensive than faux, so it is important that you know how to tell the difference between the two. Learning how to distinguish real leather from faux leather will ensure an efficient and enjoyable buying experience, and it will also give you a chance to put your money on the right kind of clothing

Difference Between Faux And Real Leather

Authentic and genuine leather are made from the skins of animals, such as cattle, goats, sheep, and pigs. There are many types of leather, but it can generally be categorized into three types: aniline, semi-aniline, and pigmented. When choosing which type of leather to purchase, consider the desired appearance, and how often the leather will be used.

Genuine leather are typically a lot more sturdy, softer, shinier. Because Genuine leather are harvested from the skin of animals, they are definitely a lot more expensive compared to their “faux” counterparts, and they are also harder to source and produce.

Faux leather is made from a fabric base, which is chemically treated with wax, dye, or polyurethane for a color and texture. Ultimately, it is manmade and exists to give the look and feel of real leather at an exceptionally lower cost. The most common type of faux leather is p leather. It is a plastic fabric made to look like leather. It is lighter and less restrictive than real leather, and can be dyed any color. Faux leather comes in many forms and some are better quality than others.

Since faux leather are artificially created, they are much more affordable compared to real, genuine leather. The quality of faux leather varies depends on the material used to create it, but the inexpensive price means you can buy one when the last one gives up on you.

Here is a very nice faux leather hoodie from Style Nanda, and I know you will agree when I say that this faux leather hoodie is something that would look good if you are in for a casual look!

How To Wear Knit Sweaters And Cardigans?

When weather starts to get cold and the temperature starts to drop, layering starts to become more and more important. Layering helps me not only to withstand the cold weather, but also to look good and fashionable while protecting myself. And when it comes to layering while looking good, I feel like there is nothing more fun and fashionable to use than cardigan and knit sweaters.

Unlike most woven fabrics, knit cardigans and sweaters are able to stretch to a certain degree. With this flexibility at hand, knit sweaters are definitely much more comfortable to wear than your normal garment. Also, this flexibility is just the perfect solution for layering because the garment can stretch to accommodate the extra piece of clothing. In short, knit cardigans and sweaters drape well with any body type.

Aside from being thoroughly comfortable and flexible, tend not to wrinkle. As they are very versatile pieces, I assure you that they will work really well for consumers who are looking for a versatile piece to add to their closet clothing collection. While their chunkier cousins are limited to winter, knit cardigans and sweaters are definitely suitable all year-round. Since they aren’t too heavy, they can easily substitute jackets and can be worn in a lot of ways.

When shopping for an knit sweater or cardigan, what looks good on one woman may be unflattering on another. Because of this, you have to know what type of style would fit your body type. For example, women with an hourglass figure should select a light-weight and fitted sweater that would showcase the waist. Pear-shaped women, on the other hand, look awesome in sweaters that end around their waist.

Apple-shaped women, in my opinion, should try to stay with fabrics that are lighter, with eye-catching necklines to make them look thinner. Longer sweaters with a V-neck, boat neck, or sweetheart neckline work well for this body type. On the contrary, thin women, in reverse, can wear a bulkier sweater accented with a to add the illusion of curves. This strategy also works well for women with a rectangular-shaped body and turtleneck knit sweaters are suitable for both apple shaped and thin body type women.

Denim Jackets As A Nice Alternative To Cardigans

Denim is a perennial staple in my closet, and the closets of millions of people all around he world. The denim fabric is such a classic, whether you are going for a clean casual look or a rugged street style, and I am sure that it will not fade away soon. Let me say it too, that although the varying trends on the shape, color, style and embellishments of denim pants have changed drastically throughout the years, the styling and the appeal of most denim jackets has still remained consistent. Because of this, the denim jacket of today still continues to have a big demand.

As a piece of fashion staple, denim jackets often enhance and improve the overall look and appeal of a bland outfit. Depending on the style of the jacket, your out fit can look a little bit more casual or a little bit edgier, and it can either be good or bad depending on which way you want to go. With the popularity of colored denim, a well-designed jean jackets in fun shades can also add a bit of splash of color to any outfit. Still, no matter the style of the denim jacket, however, this staple is a must-have item for any closet.

Truthfully, today’s denim jackets as we know them started as accompaniment to denim pants. Featuring the same design, look and features of the classic jeans, the denim jacket quickly rose to the top. In essence, There are three types of denim used in manufacturing denim jackets: the raw denim, which is typically not washed after being dyed, the selvage denim, which does not truly unravel; and the washed denim, which looks like a faded piece of denim.

To make denim jacket much more fun and exciting to wear, some denim jackets manufacturers have also started to feature embellishments such as sequins, colorful stitching, beading, or fringe to their pieces. These decorative enhancements can add a splash of color to the standard denim hue and help the wearer stand out from the pack. When worn even with a casual white t-shirt and ap air of black slim pants, the denim jacket can really enhance a simple look and make it look much more enticing to the eyes. Here is an example of the stuff that I am talking about — some very nice denim jackets for women courtesy of BullAng.com
